Centrelink can provide crisis payments and other support in cases of domestic and family violence.

Financial abuse

Domestic and family violence can be financial such as:

  • forbidding access to bank accounts
  • providing an inadequate ‘allowance’
  • not allowing the victim to work
  • forcing the victim to sign documents or make false declarations
  • using all wages earned by the victim for household expenses
  • controlling the victim’s pension
  • denying that the victim has an entitlement to joint property.
